Investigation 1: The Human Brain

In Investigation 1, you will explore the remarkable organization of the human brain. Through hands-on activities, including brain dissection and the Brain Cap mapping exercise, you will discover that different brain structures perform specialized functions while working together as a unified system.

You will investigate major regions of the brain and consider how changes or injury to particular areas can affect thought, memory, emotion, movement, judgment, and behavior. This Investigation provides the foundation for understanding how the brain processes information throughout the Human Cognition unit.

Enduring Understanding

By the end of Investigation 1, you should understand:

The brain isn’t just one thing. It is an incredibly organized system in which different structures perform different functions while working together as a unified whole.
