Investigations
Investigation 1: The Brain and Nervous System — In this Investigation, you will explore the structure and function of the human brain and nervous system, investigate how different regions of the brain contribute to what you do, and examine a sheep brain to connect what you have learned to real anatomy.
Investigation 2: Simple Information Processing — In this Investigation, you will explore how the nervous system detects and responds to information, investigate reflexes and sensory responses, and conduct experiments to discover how different parts of your body sense and respond to the world around you.
Investigation 3: Learning and Memory – Students explore how the fetus develops and changes during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and how the placenta functions as the interface between the mother and the fetus.
Investigation 4: Executive Functions – In this Investigation, students will learn about the technology that permits health professionals and parents to actually visualize the developing embryo and fetus. You will also examine the properties and important functions of amniotic fluid.
Investigation 5: Uniquely Human – Students explore how the fetus develops and changes during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and how the placenta functions as the interface between the mother and the fetus.
